It’s quite common to see signs at street corners warning you of falling ice and snow in Sweden. The reason for that is that with heavy snowfall and freezing periods the rooftops clutter up with icicles and thick layers of snow. Obviously roofs don’t like that. Besides that, falling icicles when it starts to thaw can seriously injure people (which happens a few times a year)
So there are people who climb up the roofs, and clean them up, removing the snow and icicles by dropping it down. Quite a dangerous job as you can imagine that the roofs are rather slippery.
So next time you are in Sweden and you see a (usually yellow) sign saying something like: “Varning för istappar!” or “Varning för ras” it’s wise to cross the street and continue your walk on the other side.
