A long time ago I wrote about the fact that I got hands of a new phone, the iMate SP3. I called it ‘the scoblephone’ because Robert (Scoble) was evangelizing the phone heavily. He picked up that story quite fast and linked back to my weblog, resulting in hits skyrocketing.

Now that Robert has announced that he will leave Microsoft and join PodTech.net I guess it means there won’t be any new Scoblephones… too bad. I liked the name…

Robert did something I never thought someone was able to pull off on me. He made me like Microsoft. For me he gave Microsoft a face, and showed me that there a big bunch of very dedicated people working at that company. He made me look into Microsoft developer tooling. And it worked. I love them. Microsoft Visual Studio is until now the best developer environment I’ve seen. Eclipse is good, Visual Studio is better.

Through my efforts with Doppler I got in contact with local Microsoft representatives, I’ve received a few ‘glimpses’ of the inner workings of the company and was even in the running for a job in Redmond (thanks for that Gianpaolo!), which unfortunately for reasons outside of my reach was cancelled.

Still, the company did it for me. And I thank Robert for that.

Any more job openings, guys? ;-)
