Today I was looking for a tool to read an ISO file without burning it to disc. Usually I use Microsoft’s quite okay Virtual CDROM utility (freeware, and it simply works on XP) but it failed in Vista. Looking around I found several other solutions, but the easiest one I found at a spot I never thought I would find it: in 7-Zip. 7-Zip is my preferred archiver on Windows. Simple, no bloat, and does its work very well. If I create archive files which I don’t have to share (for backup reasons or something like) I always pick its own 7z format. Really nice.
Right click on an ISO file, select ‘7-Zip’ from the context menu and pick ‘open archive’.
Just great!
