I bought a number for my girlfriend… As a birthday present.
The number 74. Painting on a white canvas. I was still lacking her a present, and she came up with a website where an artist sells 1000 paintings with a number on it, all unique, between 1 and 1000. She liked 74, and I decided it would be a nice birthday gift. So right now, number 74 is not available anymore.
The prices depend on the number of paintings sold. The artist from Switzerland explains it on his website as follows:
Generally, the value of a number is defined by the number itself, in the following way: value = 1000 - number. However, this is only the maximum price. Initially, a discount of 90% applies. This discount will decrease by an absolute 10% for every hundred paintings that are sold (for example, after 300 sold paintings, the discount will be 60%). In short, the earlier you buy your favourite number, the less you pay.
Feels weird though, buying a number…
More info on his weblog.
Update: what the heck, I also bought one for me. Number 404… for obvious reasons
