After using a Scoblephone for quite some time, I recently became the happy owner of a new smartphone: a QTEK 8310 (Swedish website). It’s also known as the iMate SP5, and probably a lot more names. The little gizmo runs Windows Mobile 5.0, has wlan support (802.11b), bluetooth, the works, and it supports the .NET Compact framework 2.0.

It’s has a great resolution for such a small device (320×240), which means you can really cram a lot onto that little screen (the question remains, should you). So I started VS.NET 2005, created a new smartphone project, and this is what I ended up with after a few evenings of coding fun:

I will make the first beta available for download probably at the end of next week. You need however a smartphone with similar specs as the one I have (= Windows Mobile 5.0, high resolution). If I can find the time I’ll create versions for other resolutions, and maybe I’ll will also throw in a Pocket PC version. Syncing the feeds can be done using Wifi, GPRS( Expensive! ) or just by connecting the phone to ActiveSync.

In the mean time, you can download the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 Redistributable over here, you will need it to run DopplerPPC:
